TACV Cabo Verde Airlines launches a new flight route to Natal

TACV Cabo Verde Airlines has launched a new weekly flight between Ilha do Sol (SID) and Natal (NAT). The new flight route was launched in Brazil on 20th November and will operate as a weekly Friday service.

TACV Cabo Verde Airlines, based in Cape Verde, has operated since 1958 and offers flights to Europe, North America and West African countries. Natal, the capital and largest city of Rio Grande do Norte state in north east Brazil, is the airline’s 14th new destination from its base in Ilha do Sol as well as TACV Cabo Verde Airlines’ 5th new destination in the past three months.

The airline will offer flights to the Greater Natal International Airport, located 25km from Natal city centre.

Natal’s airport, built in 2014 to replace its existing airport Augusto Severo, currently holds the title of the largest airport in South America. The airport has increased passenger capacity from 2.4 million to 6.2 million passengers per annum and has already welcomed over 3,635,423 million passengers since its opening.

The airport accommodates major airlines such as TAM, TAP Portugal, Gol and Azul Brazilian Airlines connecting Natal by air with many Brazilian cities as well as international destinations. Rio Grande do Norte’s strategic positioning and close proximity to Europe and Africa means that the airport can offer some of the shortest flights from Brazil to many transatlantic destinations. Currently, TAP Portugal operates a direct international flight between Natal and Lisbon at just 6 hours, 15 minutes.

Greater Natal International Airport has already benefited Natal as well as Rio Grande do Norte, serving as key factor in Natal’s appointment to host the FIFA World Cup in 2014 as well as boosting the region’s tourism growth, and with the addition of the new airlines such as TACV Cabo Verde Airlines it is likely to benefit the region further.

Currently, the airport is one of the candidates in the run to become the central Hub for LATAM. The LATAM Hub, based in one of the North eastern Brazilian cities, will serve as a major passenger and cargo distribution centre for Europe and North America with the project forecast to bring R$9.9 billion worth of investment to the region over five years.

Avid supporters of new infrastructure developments in the Northeast, leading property developer Ritz-G5 and its CEO Luiz Fernandes are thrilled over the addition of the new airline to Natal’s airport,
