Brazilians continue to choose domestic travel with northeast at the top of their list
Northeast of Brazil is still the preferred destination among domestic travellers.
The Consumer Survey - Travel Intent released by the Ministry of Tourism reveals that as many as 78.4% of potential travellers will opt for domestic destinations and only 20% of respondents intend to visit other countries.
Some of the main factors motivating Brazilians to visit national destinations include biodiversity, cultural wealth and heritage.
Indeed, according to the study northeast is still one of the most preferred destinations with most potential travellers and as many as 44.8% of respondents intend to visit northeast of Brazil within the next six months.
The southeast is the second most popular region with 27.3%, followed by the south (19.3%), central west (6.8%) and north (5.4%).
Furthermore, 63.1% of those who intend to travel by December will use planes as main means of transport. The percentage is 11% higher than for the same period last year.
The Consumer Survey also reveals that most Brazilians (89.8%) intend to travel with their spouses, children and other relatives.
Indeed, not only domestic tourists are choosing northeast as their preferred holiday destination.
Data from the Regional Superintendence of the Federal Police in Rio Grande do Norte (RN) confirm further growth among foreign tourists in the state.
According to the report, the region has seen a significant increase in foreign visitors between January and July 2016, with 43.77% more tourists visiting Rio Grande do Norte in 2016 than in the same period last year.
Greater Natal International Airport and Port of Natal recorded 18,335 international tourists so far this year. In comparison, 12,752 international visitors were registered during the same period in 2015.
This increase represents an inflow of approximately 15 million Brazilian real into the RN economy.
