The national airline of Republic of Seychelles, Air Seychelles, has introduced a new extension to its international network to Brazil through codeshare with Etihad Airways.

The airline will now offer connections to São Paulo via Abu Dhabi through its partner airline from the United Arab Emirates.

Established in 1978, Air Seychelles primarily offers international flights to UAE, Europe, Africa and Asia whilst also sharing codeshare agreements with major international carriers.

Air Seychelles describes the development as a major milestone. Roy Kinnear, Air Seychelles’ Chief Executive Officer said,

“We’re thrilled to add the vibrant city of São Paulo to our growing list of codeshare destinations with Etihad Airways, enabling business and leisure travelers to fly to Seychelles with just one short stop in Abu Dhabi.

“Brazil’s economy and outbound travel market has experienced incredible growth over the last decade, with up to nine million people travelling overseas each year and with these seven weekly codeshare flights we can look forward to welcoming more visitors to our shore.”

Foreign Affairs and Transport Minister, Joel Morgan, hopes that the addition of new flights will further strengthen the tourism and cultural links between the two countries. Mr. Morgan said,

“The tourism and cultural links between Brazil and Seychelles have strengthened significantly in recent years and brought our two countries, which share a similarly colouful culture, spirit and charismatic approach to life, much closer together.”

Indeed, Brazil has been working on further boosting tourism to Seychelles.

Recently, the new Brazilian Ambassador to Seychelles, Mr. Carlos Alfonso Iglesias Puente has met with the President of Seychelles, James Michael, where the President and the Ambassador have discussed different sectors that could help to develop even stronger relations between Seychelles and Brazil.

Mr. Puente said,

“Relations between Seychelles and Brazil date back more than fifteen years now and they are good. Coincidentally, we share a commonality of views on a wide range of issues and on matters that affect developing countries, mainly the subject of sustainable development.

“Brazil and Seychelles share the same views in dealing with those important issues. They are two friendly countries that cooperate well in many fields in international relations.”

Mr. Puente has also mentioned that with the need to increase the number of tourists coming to the country, Brazil is intending to open an honorary consulate which would also contribute to boost relations between the two countries.
